IN BLOOM: FLOWERS AND FLORAL STILL LIFES
The vibrant colors and delicate forms of spring come alive in “In Bloom: Flowers and Still Lifes,” an exhibit of the works of photographer Lori Adams. Opening in June in the heart of the Hudson Valley, this curated show invites art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike to celebrate the season’s renewal and experience the timeless allure of floral and still life compositions.
Adams has been making photographs for close to 50 years. “In Bloom” represents the photographer’s admiration and awe of the structure, form and color of many of the flowering plants in Dutchess County and beyond. As a gardener, citizen scientist and artist, Adams brings specimens into her studio to study and make portraits of them. “With my lights and lenses I can bring out details that I cannot see otherwise,” she says. “The flowers die but the photographs live on.”
The flower portraits are complemented by still lifes in the style of Netherlandish painting. Adams styles, arranges and lights the set-ups to create relationships between objects of her desire.
“In Bloom” explores the intricate relationship between art and nature. Each piece captures the ephemeral beauty of blossoms or the quiet elegance of still life arrangements.
